A New Statement from the Board of executive directors. The board has just issued the following statement to the staff of the bank

Communication from the Executive Directors of the World Bank Group

May 1, 2007—The Executive Directors met today to hear a progress report from the ad hoc group of Directors which is looking into recent allegations involving the President, Mr. Wolfowitz. In the interest of transparency and to ensure accurate public understanding of the status of the work, the Executive Directors are making this further statement.

Following the April 16 statement of the Development Committee, the ad hoc group has continued its work, taking it forward in an orderly manner, with fair process and careful deliberation.

The ad hoc group has completed an additional round of interviews with the people involved and received a number of statements. It will now draw its conclusions from the information obtained from the documents and during the course of the interviews. It will then expeditiously prepare its report and submit it to the Executive Directors for their decisions.

The Executive Directors remain very concerned about the impact on the work of the Bank Group and are committed to the earliest possible resolution of the matter.

Come on Board, just for one, please make up you mind, and quikly. Every day that goes by damages the World Bank.

The WB Board has proved useless. Really useless. When you need them to approuve, they do. When you need them to think independently, they can't. We are for a non-resident Board.

Yes, they have no balls, when it comes to tough decisions. But we don't need a non-resident board. We need to get rid of impunity for the Bank. When they resettle thousands of people into deeper poverty for the sake of Northern companies, those who suffer should be able to sue them at the International Criminal Court. There should be penalties from money to jail. And not a golden handshake like PW will probably get.

The resident board business is a vestige of the era of snail mail, and a way of shoving cronies to plum jobs. I say: get rid of these parasites.

Since PW is in Brussels now, isn't this the ideal time for the EDs to meet and suspend him pending a full meeting?

An acting President can be named at the same time.

That way, he can be kept off premises by Security when he returns.

His personal possessions at the office can be packed up and sent to him.

Maybe then he will get the point?
