who will be next World Bank President What will they do

The Nail in the Coffin? Ok, I think with the latest leak, this time from the Pentagon, Wolfowitz and Riza are down for the count. The FT is reporting that Wolfowitz told Pentagon investigators that he obtained the help of a World Bank staffer with whom he "had a close personal relationship" in "activity supporting the war".

While it has been known for sometime that Riza went to Iraq in 2003 without informing the proper World Bank channels to do some work for the Pentagon/State Department, this is clear evidence indicating that Wolfowitz himself was behind the potential conflict of interest. As the FT story indicates, I doubt that the Board will look favorably on these new developments.

Those wanting to see some of the memos and people involved should watch the Channel 4 news piece mentioned here yesterday.

From Reuters: "The report said Mr Wolfowitz told Pentagon investigators he enlisted the help of a World Bank employee with whom he had a 'close personal relationship' in 'activity supporting the war' in Iraq when he was deputy secretary of defence."

Scuse me? Shaha baby, you work for the International Bank for RECONSTRUCTION and Development, not I--B-- for DESTRUCTION and D---.

Now surely this was an egregious violation of the Staff Rules, and together with the damage she and her paramour have done to the WB's reputation, is surely grounds for her dismissal for cause -- as in, bye-bye sweetheart deal.

Perhaps, like the beloved head of the Institutional Integrity Dept, there is a spot for her working for the Bushes...probably do a heckuva job there too.

The initial naive reaction of some on this entire saga was that they "got caught in hubris". Ever since the plot kept thickening and the Wolf and she persisting with neo-con artistry, even the bystanders have felt being constantly pentagonized by these disgusting characters.

Had it not for been for the vigilance of and exposure by this site, the two might have escaped.

Wofowitz enjoys working for the bush, Shaha's bush , and others, I understand.

The AHG delivered a draft report to Mr. Wolfowitz in the evening, with the following attachments: (i) the April 11, 2007 AHG Report; (ii) the President’s Papers; (iii) the EC Record; (iv) a written statement by Mr. Coll, with eight documents attached; and (v) transcripts of the eight interviews conducted on April 25, April 30 and May 1.
The AHG asked for Mr. Wolfowitz’s comments by the close of business on May 8.

The written statement by Mr. Coll with eight documents attached ( incl. a threatening PW memo)...and with nixonian vulgarity included... that is the smoking gun where the silver bullet and nail in the coffin of the Lycanthropos will come from.

Now, without Wolfowitz to kick around let's all go to Wolftrap in the summer.

To Nun: re: letter to Folsom.

I urge you to email your excellent points to the Volcker Panel which is investigating INT.

Folsom and coterie are the epitome of conniving and cronyism. She herself is the female incarnate of Cheney--who need to be sent together to an undisclosed location!

Washingtonian ~ May 10, 2007, 03:13 PM

This entire episode is worse than Watergate. Even those crooks had a segment of shame. For starters: Kevin Kellems (who thought he could become John Dean) should not be let off the hook just with a resignation. Wolfowitz and his entourage deserve to be behind bars!

Query to Lycanthropos:

Any idea why the Brazilian ED (Canuto) was interviewed twice by the AHG? Could it be related to the reported shenanigans of Kevin Kellems during his trip to Brazil?

Washingtonian ~ May 10, 2007, 03:29 PM

Mr. Canuto is a key member of the Ethics Committee who must have a very detailed recollection of the events leading to this sad "current situation". Tourism of the type attributed to Mr. Kellems while on official mission does have some ethical implications.

Lycanthropos ~ May 10, 2007, 04:39 PM

SR should have never been allowed to work for the DoD in 2003 or 2004. She went to Iraq joining a special mission led by the DoD while on leave from the Bank. She even had a contract with the DoD (thanks to "le loup") She never informed her bosses ! OUTRAGEOUS... she must be sanctioned for such action. There is no excuse for such action.

shame on "le loup" ~ May 10, 2007, 07:26 PM

As the supreme moral authority on all things in sandy countries, I would like to know exactly what it is that Mr Kellems is alleged to have done in Brazil.

Appropriate suggested sanctions may then be pursued in this blog.
