Europeans "ready to veto" candidates. European officials in Washington have warned that they will not hesitate to veto any American candidate for the presidency they feel is unsuitable. A precedent was set for that in 2000 when the Americans rejected the proposed European candidate for head of the IMF Caio Koch-Weser.
