Like old times: Zoellick and Lamy Should Robert Zoellick indeed become president of the World Bank, he will be reunited with his old friend Pascal Lamy, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, in the elite club at the top of the global economic system. When Zoellick was U.S. Trade Representative, Lamy was his counterpart for the European Union. Together they made the so-called "Doha development round" what it is today. Zoellick often played the bad cop to Lamy's good cop, but the routine didn't work when developing countries banded together at the Cancun WTO meeting in 2003. What can they come up with in the future? This and other reflections on the blog at IFIwatchnet, the internet portal for alternative views on the international financial institutions.
