G20 for open and transparent appointment. Reuters is reporting that South Africa is pushing the US to abide by an agreement of the Group of 20 economic powers for an open and transparent appointment of the new head of the World Bank.

As the current chair and only African member in the G20, a body ( that does incluse the US) that promotes open and constructive discussion between industrial and emerging-market countries on key issues related to global economic stability, South Africa, represented by Trevor Manuel has said "more balanced representation within the institutions was needed and greater transparency in appointing their leaders."

The G20, in the final communique of its 2006 annual meeting, called for the managing director of the International Monetary Fund and president of the World Bank to be selected in a transparent and consultative process, and not restricted to nationality.
