Zoellick front-runner/Frist withdraws. According to the Financial Times, Zoellick is leading the pack of contenders for the position of President of the World Bank.
"Senior US administration officials expect a decision on the successor to Paul Wolfowitz, who steps down as bank president on June 30 following an ethics scandal, to be announced this week in Washington."

Even though there have been demands from different groups and countries for an open and transparent selection process, the WH is maintaining the convention that the nominee should be an American.

Meanwhile Associated Press is reporting that "Former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist has withdrawn his name from consideration for World Bank president, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Monday."

"Frist told administration officials Monday that he did not want to be considered for the top job at the bank, citing his desire to take a break from government work, said the source who asked not to be identified because he had not been authorized to speak publicly about the decision."
